30 mins to prepare presentation in interview- Please help!

Hi- In 6 days I am attending an interview for a senior logistics management position with a well known manufacturer. At the interview I will be given 30 minutes to prepare a presentation on how I would go about solving a supply chain problem.
I then have to deliver this via a 30 minute presentation.
The problem to be solved will be given to me at the interview.

I am allowed to use Powerpoint and a flipchart.

I would really like this position and know I could do a good job for them, so I would really appreciate any help as to the most effective way I can prepare and deliver this presentation.

Many thanks- Steve

Interview is now on Wednesday. I am devising a practise presentation on PowerPoint guessing what the presentation subject matter may be.
Can anyone give me any last minute tips, even if its how to control nerves which have affected some of my presentations in the past!

Thanks, Steve

Hi Steve

I think you've started well by pre-empting the possible scenario. If it were me...I would see if I could take a cd or usb memory stick with your pre prepared powerpoint template that you can then just add relevant text to based on the problem they give you. That way you won't fuss over what to use and it'll help save the time so you can double check your finished presentation before you "go live" as it were. (it's all about the 5 P's!!)

Other usual tips... things that you probably aware of already...
Get a good sleep the night before!
Wear something that you'll be comfortable in so you won't be figity.
Get there in good time so you don't rush in flustered etc
Try to find a cool, quiet place where you can close your eyes and very slowly breath and relax.
Make sure you have eaten a good breakfast - nothing worse than a rumbley stomach!
Watch out for filler words such as erm, ah, like and ok (often these make you sound more nervous)
And don't worry about your nerves too much (it means you care about how you perform) - the audience will understand that it's a nervous time for you!
Most importantly SMILE & enjoy it! It's a chance to show that you are passionate about the work you want to do!

Good Luck! Let us know how it goes!

Thanks for the reply Pam

As usual for interviews I allowed plenty of time to get there, however due to the heat public transport was in chaos which meant I didn't arrive early, but dead on time!

Unfortunately the nature of the interview meant that I had to wear a business suit and the room was not air conditioned!

The presentation was on a technical subject and required thought and planning which took about 15 mins. I then prepared 6 or so PowerPoint slides in the remaining 15 mins. They certainly did not include "bells and whistles" but I did my best, kept it simple and got my message across. With questions, my presentation lasted a little short of the 30 mins allowed. I did not have time to use flipcharts.

Certainly not the best presentation I've done, but the nerves held I'll post the outcome.

I've got a first interview with another company next week and have been informed that if I get through this, the second interview will require a presentation, but this time I will know the subject in advance

Thanks again, Steve

Hi Steve

I'll keep my fingers crossed for you!

I know what it's like doing presentations for jobs and it seems more and more that companies like to have people do them for more senior roles!...I'm a company trainer so I have lots of practice and I know when I was looking for a new job last year I wished I'd found this website sooner!

If you need anymore help just let me know...I might not always know answers but I'll try!

all the best!

Many thanks Pam.

Yes I'll let you know the outcome of this job and what the presentation subject is for the next one if I get through the first round!

Steve
