How to embed audio (MP3) ?

I'm creating a cd-rom which should contain some PowerPoint files. One of these presentations has some audio files like speech and music.

Since I'm putting this on a cd-rom, I can't just link the audio to the presentation, because when played on a different computer the sound will not play. Therefore I'll have to embed the audio files, but the thing is I can only embed .wav files and they're way too big (like 40 mb). I have tried MP3 but PowerPoint won't embed them.

Is there any way to embed MP3 files? Or any other ideas? The presentation will be loaded from the cd, so it would be quite bad if the file is like 100 MB because of embedded wav-files.

Thank!

If you put all of the MP3 files into the same directory as the PowerPoint file then it should be able to play OK.

You can link MP3 files but you cannot embed them. The only way to do this is to convert them to WAV files. This will increase the file size, but if you convert them to mono files this will help keep the file size from being too large.

If you want to embed the WAV files then instructions are given in Step 4 of the following page http://www.presentationmagazine.com/...oint_music.htm

The difficulty is that I think there is a limit of 50MB to the file size of a track that you can embed.

Good luck

Thanks, I know how to embed sounds, but since one can only embed Wavs, that won't do.
I think I found a solution with this:

same thing

Hi
Did you fix this problem.....I need to do the same as you I think.
I've created a presentation and want to save it as a slide show. It is a series of photos lasting 3 mins.....57 in all. I have an MP3 playing throughout.

Because the photos are quite high res. the actual slideshow is 69 megs. Ideally I'd like to save this to a CD rom or preferably a DVD.

What do you think?

cheers
Paul

audio file problem

I am new to powerpoint but have made a presentation on my PC with an audio file that plays with each slide. Works great! But, when I copy the presentation to my laptop I lose the audio. How do I get the audio (.wav files) to transfer to my lap top? Kind of the same problem as the cd issue but going to a another computer.

Thanks,
Madmom

Reencoding

I reencoded .MP3 file with CDex to .Riff WAV file, the size is similar to MP3 but it's a WAV file and powerpoint can embed it. Of course, you mus tell it to link files with size > 5000 Kb or so, instead of 100 Kb ( Tools / Options / General Tab )

thanks to you i have done it but i found a better way, instead to reencod you can just add riff.wav headr and it leaves it in the same size.

PowerPoint will normally only allow you to 'embed' (save your music inside your normal .ppt powerpoint file) .wav files

However, it can be fooled into embedding (not linking) .mp3 files (which are much smaller than wavs).

see Want to Embed mp3 Files in PowerPoint or Use mp3's as a Transition Sound

Embedding MP3 files

I can say I was successful in converting my MP3 files which now have wav extension. I embedded the new wav file into my presentation. Only one problem, the sound file stops at the end of the first slide and restarts on the second slide. The entire wav file plays to completion for the rest of the slide presentation. How do I prevent the wav file from stopping at the end of the first slide and restarting on the second slide?

Embedding MP3 music to Presentation

I was successful in converting my mp3 file with a wav extension. I embedded the new wav file and discovered a problem. The music plays just fine and starts with the appropriate delayed time for the first slide. At the end of the first slide it stops! The music file begins again on the second slide and continues to the end of the presentation.

How can I resolve this problem.

I want the music to play throughout the entire presentation without stopping or restarting. Can anyone help me.

You have (probably) applied it as a transition sound on EVERY slide

You will need to delete the sounds and reapply only to slide one (ie DO NOT click "apply to all")

NB You can delete all the transition sounds in one go by choosing Transition > Sound > No Sound > Apply to All

Size of file with embedded mp3

I found the advice on using CDex very helpful and managed to save a 0.5 Mb mp3 file as a "fake WAV" with no increase in size. However, when this was embedded in a 1 Gb animated Xmas card, the total saved file size came out at 2.5 MB, not 1.5 Gb. Did I do something wrong? Or does PowerPoint add a lot of extra programming in order to sequence the music in time with the slide?
