20 min presentation

hi i need to do a 20 minute presentation on any theme related to music.

The presentation is graded completely on audience involvement.

Ive been thinking of themes like The importance of communication-- then I would give a presentation that would involve the audience on the importance of communication.

The most obvious approach I could take is playing music for the audience and to have them be judges, but that wouldn't cover much of a theme, and I doubt it would last the full 20 minutes. Plus I only have 5 days to prepare and I dont have an idea yet.

Ive also thought about letting the audience play certain roles they could be musicians themselves and i would somehow incorporate that idea into my presentation. They could be recording companies, critics, a crowd at a concert... but I just cant think of how to present any main theme regarding music with the audience actively participating.

thnx

This seems like a bit of a tough one. One presentation that I once did related to music was to play all of the bad music that have been heard while on hold on the telephone. These included

Hanging on the telephone
Greensleeves musak
Chopins Funeral March (heard in a casualty department of a hospital)
So tired of waiting for you by the Kinks
There were some funny bits like when I called the post office and got told "you are being held in a queue and will be answered shortly" at which point in cut Elton John's Rocket Man singing "...and I think its going to be a long, long time....."

There are a few of the tracks on our sister site Call Centre Helper

Doing an orchestra sounds like a great idea - if you can work out how it would work. The real secret to doing it well is to very quickly pick the subject and start rehearsing it. You will soon see if it works. Try it out on your family or freinds and get their feedback.

How about showing different movies etc. with different (background)music? Let the audience tell or write down what kind of mood or vibe they feel and see the difference it makes what kind of audio there is.

A few years ago a teacher at college played an audio sample taken from a movie and we had to guess what is was. Really funny, it turned out to be a fragment from a movie with a ship in a heavy storm, with things breaking and the engines roaring. No-one had guessed that when hearing it only, but with the visual it al made sense.

So you have different options to show the importance of audio and music for the way people feel and to create certain 'moods' in movies etc.
