Help!! Visual Aid for a Poem!

I've been trying to figure out what to do for nearly a week. It can't be made on the computer! Any other time I would've made a PowerPoint. But I need some creative ideas. This is becoming harder than what I thought it would be.
It's for the poem, "I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings" by Maya Angelou.

Whilst still at school we studied this poem in English lit. and found strong links to war and captives.
If it was me given your task i would print out pictures of war captives in black and white and display them.

You could also make, forgive me as i do not know there names, but where you dram a bird on a piece of card and bars on the reverse and make it apear as the bird is free. that could be relevent to your piece.

A tough challenge you have set, but all the best with it. i hope that i have helped.
