I was just going through my old files and I came across these Presentation Tips

Write down your speech, but try not to read from it. If you have written it down – if you dry up, you will beable to pick it back up again.

When you practice your presentation, do it with a tape recorder or with a video recorder and then play it back to find out which bits sound weak.

When you speak -try to speak with passion and enthusiasm. If you speak passionately it will make up for many other shortcomings.

Pause – the power of pausing in a presentation can be very profound. It will also give you a chance to catch your breath.

Don’t leave it to the very last minute to work on your presentation. When you know you have to give a presentation – make sure that you leave yourself real time to present – and this is more than half a day the night before. You will be standing up in front of a lot of people – you want to to go well. Plan at least 8 hours over the week before.

Make sure that you have spent time in the presentation room before your presentation. get to know the room and run through your slides beforehand to ensure that everything is working smoothly.

In the past I’ve had some troubles with you first tip. I had written down the complete presentation, but when I needed to look up the text, I couldn’t find out quickly enough where I was. So I guess that doesnt work all the time. Better to know what you want to say and use pictures etc. which have a meaning to the subject so you always know something to talk about.

I used to tend to write my speech down on post cards. When I change the slide I also turn over the next postcard. This way I can pick up exactly where I am in the speech.

Now I tend to memorise the speech line, by line. It takes a lot more effort, but the results speak for themselves!

I feel the best way is to really study the information and write down condensed notes to refer to. I feel you come across better when you sound like your speaking naturally instead of from a script. So study and know your information. be prepared.

i agree with troymdy, it is easier to pay attention to a speaker that talks from from knowledge then people that talks from paper. but offcourse notecards are handy, so you don’t get off track or can come back on track. But thats the only thing they should be used as. looking at a card when changin subject, is ok since it goes with the flow kinda, since you will have a pause there most likely.
