Leaving Speech

Help

I have to prepare a leaving speech or a member of my team who has been with the company or the past 5 years.

Any advice on what to do or say?

Here is a funny one liner you could use

"I always arrive late at the office, but I make up or it by leaving early" Charles Lamb
You could change this to "He/She always arrived late at the office..."

Although not lines or a boss to give here is an excerpt rom Betty Boothroyd's leaving speech

"When I came to the conclusion that it was right for me to go, my thoughts
went to that famous passage in the book of Ecclesiastes, about there being

A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance.

Well, my dancing days are long past--[Hon. Members: "No!"]--and I promise the House that I shall not weep, but I shall certainly mourn the fact that an all-important phase in my life has come to a natural end. However, it is time for laughter as well, as we remember all the lighter moments that we
have enjoyed--

I say to you, rejoice in your inheritance, defend your rights and remember
always that the privileges the House enjoys were dearly won and must never be squandered. You elected me in the springtime, and I shall retire in the autumn, which marks a fitting seasonal conclusion to my period in office.
Therefore I say to you all, in a phrase that you all know well, but which
has never been more true than now: "Time's up." [Applause.]

A few ideas on how to structure the speech

1. Keep it short
2. Make it witty - look for a couple of quotations or jokes on the internet (the ones above could work well)
3. A summary of some of their best attributes - as well as an embarrassing moment
4. End by thanking them for their contribution over the passed three years - saying that they will be very much missed and hand them the present

Kind regards

A posiibility is to look back at what life was when you joined the company 16 years ago.

e.g. There was no internet. There was no email (paper memos went round instead) Fax was the hottest technology. PCs were only just entering into business life. Mobile phones were called car phones and only a few people could afford them. We all complained about stress (not much has changed there).

These will all provide a contrast on how much things have moved on in business from today.

Good luck

acting as a profession

Acting is the work of an actor or actress, which is a person in theatre, television, film, or any other storytelling medium who tells the story by portraying a character and, usually, speaking or singing the written text or play.

Here are some ideas for your leaving speech;

1. Mention the positive impact the employee had on the company.
2. Discuss any worthy milestones or achievements he/she won in the firm.
3. Make a few light-hearted remarks about changes in the world over his/her employment eg (new Prime Minister, new President of America etc)
4. Thank him/her for his/her contribution as an employee.
5. Wish him/her well for the future.
