importing a .swf file into powerpoint

Hi I've followed several on line tutorials and I can't seem to make this work?
I'm using Powerpoint 2003 and I'm trying to import a .swf file from flash. There a lot of tutorials online that demonstrate how to do this. I've tried many times now but when I try to play a preview I'm only seeing a blank screen? Does anyone know why?
