A 10 minute presentation on a subject of your choosing!!!

I am applying for an IT lecturers post within the NHS and need to do a 10 min presentation on a subject of my choosing??? What to choose?? Do I keep it simple about me or issues in teaching and learning?? One idea was benefits of staff training and identifying training needs but I don't want to be way off the mark for what they are expecting but I am not psychic..has anyone any ideas for a safe presentation??

For the panel the choice of topic is not as important as the way that you deliver it. They will be looking more at how you deliver it rather than what your topic is.

By asking for a presentation the panel are hoping that they will see some of your true personality. They are also giving you a test on how well you can present.

I would stick with your idea of using the staff training presentation, but since the answers to the benefits may be rather obvious, to add in stories and anecdotes. If you can build in information about how some of the people that you have lectured to in the past have benefited from your experience this would be very powerful.

There are a couple of general points about your presentation that I would say are essential.
1. Make it visual - if you can use pictures to help tell the story you are about twice as likely to achieve your objectives.
2. Rehearse - say your speech out loud at least 4 times, one of which should be in front of a real audience.

Good luck and please let us know what you decide.

Would you think it possible to make a strong case for alternate medicine in a technical presentation (8-10 pages and 7 minute oral presentation)?
