Can you give me any ideas, on how to design a short slide presentation to illustrate the features of PowerPoint?

My main advice would be to use images to convey your messages. Demonstration by example is perhaps the best way to show PowerPoint features.

If you concentrate on three main areas that would work well.

My suggestions for some of the areas would be
1. Inserting pictures and video
2. Animation
3. Templates

Also, rather than bombarding the audience - just concentrate on the key messages that you want to bring across and group them into three sections e.g. animation, templates and sound effects. You can then group the key examples in these areas.

A good idea may be to work backwards. Start with looking at what your audience would want to hear and then plan a presentation that includes all of the key features that you want to show - and then later put in the section about how they work.
