Video Clips into PowerPoint

Can anyone help me? I have trying to insert a Video clip into Powerpoint from a DVD. The DVD is in "DVD Video" Format and is a home recording of some private stuff. The file, when played on my computer shows that it is a PowerDVD file (.VOB) and plays perfectly using Media Player, Power DVD and the like. However, I can see now way of inserting the short clip into Powerpoint. I have downloaded PFCMedia, but this requires the DVD to be present at the time of the presentation (it also looks a bit odd because it shows the Media Player frame in the slide). Can anyone suggest a converter or any other method to insert my clip.

Keith,

powerpoint itself cannot play a .vob video file.

You need to search the web for software that can convert that file to something powerpoint likes.

Like mpg (mpeg), avi, or WMV (maybe your best bet)

Cheers

Play VOB File In PowerPoint

I have been trying to play a vob file in powerpoint without having to convert the file to another file format for some time now and think that I have found the solution. First download the DJBCP Codec Pack, at least version 4.4.2, and install it. Then copy your vob file to your harddrive and rename the file from .vob to .avi. Now insert the file as a movie and it will play. I have only tested this on PowerPoint 2003.

webbbt: Thanks for this.

I have installed DJBCP and now find most of my files on the DVD have changed to DJBCP files. Can you explain what you mean by "copy your vob file to your harddrive and rename the file from .vob to .avi". Do you mean using a DVD ripper? If so which one did you use? I am fairly new to this so I apologise if I seem a little slow.

DVD Ripper

Hi, sorry for the anonymity, but I just wanted to throw a quick tip - I use DVD Decrypter for ripping DVD's. It can be hard to find, though. I have also used Handbrake and Mac the Ripper (for MAC).

The DVD must be decoded / decrypted in order to save to a hard disk in other formats.

You can usually simpy "explore" a DVD in my computer, and copy and paste the ".VOB" files... look for the really big files, since most movies in VOB are pretty big.
